Last month, I had a very special meeting with Former Canada Ambassador to USA Mr. Allan Gotlieb in the 80's (Reagan/Bush administration) , the director of Donner Canadian Foundation and the Director of Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto. Mr Gotlieb was the donor to the Fisher Rare Book Library who made it possible for the library to acquire my most important work album "Marbled Graphics"™ by Robert Wu and also the Greek binding I made on a 1930 French Livre d'Artiste. I felt very humbled. Afterward, I presented Mr Gotlieb with my favorite signature graphics "Peacock".

My "Autumn Maple" Marbled Graphics™ was chosen as gifts by Ontario Tourism (OTMPC), Canada for Travel Blogger Exchange (TBEX) 2013 in TO!

This June, Toronto will be hosting the Travel Blogger Exchange (TBEX). http://tbexcon.com/canada/.

A thousand bloggers, tweeters, writers and photographers from around the world will be in Toronto to share Ontario’s story through social media. Every year, cities across North America compete for the chance to host this event, and Toronto is the winning city for 2013!

As part of their ‘From Ontario with Love’ contest, the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC) partnered with the Ontario Craft Council to find makers who celebrate Ontario and/or Canada in their works and have a knack for engaging and sharing their craft practice with the public through social media.  Nine makers were chosen through a call for entry, and their works will be gifted to TBEX attendees who enter the contest by blogging about their Toronto visit.

The works by the chosen makers will be on display at The Guild Shop in Yorkville District in Toronto. from May 30 to June 9, 2013. (www.Craft.on.ca)

Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Just finished printing on my 100 year old antique treadle floor press for a customer's wedding letterpress invitations. They loved the letterpress printing I did for them. The customer did a great job in designing their invitations. The young couple has a keen eye for detail so they wanted me to do their wedding gifts too. The bride was captivated by my marbling art .... So after a few weeks, all 140 wedding gifts with sheets of my "Marbled Graphics" ™ in assorted designs were ready for them... I always find great pleasure when young people or the general public have an appreciation in traditional crafts, ie: printing by hand, bookbinding by hand and marbling by hand. Time honoured tradition will never go away. William Morris' tradition continues...

Shakespeare's " A Mid-Summer Night's Dream " Designed & Bound by Robert Wu, 2012 Toronto

Shakespeare's "A Mid Summer Night's Dream"

Designed and Bound by Robert Wu, Toronto, 2012

Full French binding technique with chemise and slipcase. All edges gilt in rough and solid. Full leather doublure inside with Opal inlay and onlays. Handsewn silk headbands in blue, red and yellow.

All marbled papers are hand marbled by me specially for this binding on the box work, chemise and inside flyleaves.

Gilding and titling in gold, palladium and foil. Custom tools of fairies were made specially for this binding.

Design concept: The viewer peaks through the bushes into the nightly sky and sees fairies frolic around the ribbons. The ribbons form the shape of doubled hearts respresenting the human characters in the play. I hope to achieve this idea of constant play / struggles between reality and fantasy world.
